"U.G.C. sponsored Refresher Programmes" for teachers is a rare honour bestowed upon our department. This programme was held between (05.11.2003 and 25.11.2003).
This department had been offering different courses in tune with the expectations of the society. Courses like Sequential M.Phil(1987-88), UGC recognised Industrial Fish and Fisheries (1996 - 2001) and M.Sc (Marine Environmental Conservation, 2013-18) have created positive impact on the minds of the people.
One of the biggest museums of southern Tamilnadu is present in our college. Skeletons of various animals are the symbols of this museum. More than 3000 specimens add value to the eyes and ears of anyone visiting the museum.
The college has been conducting ‘INSPIRE’ – a programme for students who are toppers in terms of their marks since 2011. More than 1000 students have got benefitted. Illustrious scientists from all stream have given their insights to the students which motivate students to pursue their further studies in research.
This department boasts of producing two principals with high integrity namely Dr.S.Duraisamy (1991-1997) and Dr.C.Veerabahu (2012- till date) who exhibit extraordinary skills, Knowledge and attitude. Their administrative skills have taken the college to further notches up.
Updation and upgradation are part of academics. Dr.Kanagaraj, Dr.Nandagopal and Dr. Kumaraguru are Post Doctoral Follow (PDF) who have pursued their advanced research in our zoology lab.
This department has its pride in producing high-class alumni. Ranging from Member of legislative Assembly (MLA), industrialists, academicians, researchers to various government posts, our students excel in versatile areas.
Diversification is an another hall mark of this dynamic department. Our teaching staff are experts in various aspects of biological sciences like Environmental Biology, Aquaculture, Nematology, Marine Science, Medical Physiology, Wildlife Science, Ethology etc..
